Digital hype

Let me take the liberty to paraphrase an idea, from an article I've recently read.

In it, is was stated that Digital (DV) filmmaking would be better if the image was digital from the lens on through the system!

Since digital recording of sound or video is a sampling process, how could won keep it all digital? When the subject mater, (matter) is not digital...assume we are not living in the Matrex?
